Consider some helpful strategies when communicating with your student teacher, that can help them develop stronger reflection skills. Some ideas include: Clarification & Elaboration: Ex.) If a student teacher comes to you and is upset. Paraphrase the student teachers’ question or concern. Then, ask a question that would help them to reflect on their experience. Encourage Application & Transfer from one Setting to Another : The student teacher is struggling with their lesson plans. Ask the student teacher what they remember about lesson planning in their teaching methods courses at UF. Rehearsal : This can be helpful when working on specific skills. Ex.) If your student teacher is struggling with beginning a new topic with students, try asking them to describe several options for how a topic could be introduced using different materials.
